Interior design did not emerge as a specialist profession until the beginning of the 20th century. It had existed in one form or another since confined spaces started to be used as homes.
Nowadays, the interior designer/decorator is a member of a professional body who plans or directs interior architectural work by designing spaces to live, work or travel in by applying the regulations in force in order to improve the living conditions of citizens. The main milestones in the profession in Navarre have been as follows:

The optional professional duties of decorators become regulated.
The Decorators’ Assembly in Navarre agrees to the segregation of the National School and submits its application to the Regional Government of Navarre.
The Official School of Interior Designers/Decorators of Navarre is established.
